Morphology-induced plasmonic resonances in silver-aluminum alloy thin films

چکیده
We have investigated the optical properties of sputter-deposited silver-aluminum alloy thin films on silicon substrates at room temperature. In addition to the primary feature that corresponds to the bulk plasma resonance, a secondary dip appears in the optical reflectance spectra, which shifts and diminishes with thermal annealing. Careful structural characterization of both the as-deposited and annealed films suggests that the resonant feature originates from the surface plasmon resonances, which are localized in the dielectric gap between grains. This result indicates that the morphology of metal alloys could have a significant effect on their optical properties. VC 2011 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3619840]

Spoof-like plasmonic behavior of plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition grown Ag thin films
The plasmonic behavior of Ag thin films produced by plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) has been investigated. We show that as-deposited flat PEALD Ag films exhibit unexpected plasmonic properties, and the plasmonic enhancement can differ markedly, depending on the microstructure of the Ag film. Electromagnetic field simulations indicate that this plasmonic behavior is due to air ga...
متن کاملDensely packed aluminum-silver nanohelices as an ultra-thin perfect light absorber
Metals have been formed into nanostructures to absorb light with high efficiency through surface plasmon resonances. An ultra-thin plasmonic structure that exhibits strong absorption over wide ranges of wavelengths and angles of incidence is sought. In this work, a nearly perfect plasmonic nanostructure is fabricated using glancing angle deposition. The difference between the morphologies of ob...

Alternative materials such as transition metal nitrides and complex oxide such as transparent conducting oxides[16] have been also introduced for various plasmonic applications. For alternative material platforms, the primary focus is on low loss, tunability, fabrication compatibility for integrated platforms and high temperature applications.[17] Most ...
متن کاملStrong Improvement of Long-Term Chemical and Thermal Stability of Plasmonic Silver Nanoantennas and Films.
Silver (Ag) nanostructures and thin films are advantageous plasmonic materials as they have significantly lower losses than gold (Au). Unfortunately, Ag nanostructures suffer from poor chemical and thermal stability, which limit their applications. Here, the mechanisms leading to the deterioration of Ag nanostructures are clarified. It is first shown that oxygen alone cannot oxidize Ag nanostru...
